Modern Production Technologies

Zapadny Dom LLC designs, constructs and assembles wooden houses of various complexity.

Our enterprise is equipped with state-of-the-art processing equipment made in Italy and in Germany which undergoes regular maintenance inspections. Application of high-tech equipment allows us not only to strictly observe the quality standards but also to expedite the time of order fulfillment. To glue the wooden components we use modern AzkoNobel environmentally friendly glues.

Stages of Production

The laminated veneer lumber production technology consists of the following stages. The tree trunk is sawn into boards and then the material is inspected for possible defects. The defective sections are then eliminated and the remaining parts are dried and joined with mini-tenons. At the next stage the boards are processed with fire retardants (fire protective agents) and preservatives. From these carefully dried, peeled and sorted boards called lamellas the timber is glued in special pressing machine. Special high-tensile water-proof class D4 AKZO NOBEL glue is used for gluing which does not affect the wood respiratory properties.

AzkoNobel Kaskolit 1989/1993 glue is used for bonding wood to wood. This combination ensures high-tensile glue compounds for different operating conditions. The glue has high heat endurance, high creeping resistance coefficient and tolerance to solvents. The glue Kaskolit 1989/1993 fully complies with the requirements of Standard SS-EN 204 class D4, JAS 112 and JIS K 6806.

Quality Assurance

The glued wooden components are manufactured from the 8-12% moist lumber. From the drying chamber the sawn wood on the way to processing undergoes moisture control (each board) at the stationary electrical moisture meter. The boards which fail to pass moisture control are discarded. Further, the board goes through four-sided planing to adjust the geometrical dimensions and expose the flaws of wood. The sorting and discarding operator makes pencil marks of good lumber sections and defective areas which are then trimmed with a saw.

The lumber sections compliant with the requirement are end-joined with shouldered tenons according to length. The defective lumber parts are removed.

End-jointing is done on a pressing machine by picking up the lamella of pre-determined length (up to 12 meters). Slabs glued lengthwise, the lamellas (up to 12 meters long) are stored in the storage unit, the so-called cartridge, and are kept there until the glue polymerization is completed (when the joint acquires mechanical strength).

Based on the design, drawings and specification requirements of the customer we compile a set of lamellas to press the structures. The high speed feed planing machine surfaces each lamella on two sides with high quality. Each surface is then covered with glue, placed in the pressing machine where pressure is being applied to it. Pressure is being applied until the glue polymerization is fully complete. After pressing the component is finally trimmed to pre-determined size.
